These talented individuals are eager to share their knowledge with students and colleagues and to contribute to the School’s academic excellence and commitment to making a positive change in the global community.

Newest Faculty and Administrators

Chris AngellChris Angell Head of Upper School Chris comes to Ross from CATS Academy Boston, a high school for international students, where he served as Director of Studies for the Humanities and more recently as Assistant Head of School for Academics. Before his arrival at CATS, Chris taught for four years in China, first at Nanjing University of Science and Technology and then at No. 2 Hefei High School.

At both locations, Chris taught English, American culture, and American history. Prior to moving to China, Chris was employed for 22 years at Saint Edward’s School in Vero Beach, Florida, a private K–12 college preparatory institution. Beginning as a fourth grade teacher, Chris went on to teach language arts and history at every grade level from grades 4 through 12. In addition, Chris served for six years as Boys Varsity Basketball Coach, for six years as the Director of College Counseling, for seven years as Social Sciences Department Chair, and for five years as Middle School Head. He is a recipient of the Becker Excellence in Teaching Award and is the namesake of the Chris Angell Annual Middle School Award, given to the Saint Edward’s middle school student who best exemplifies school spirit, dedication, trustworthiness, and academic achievement. Chris earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont and a master’s degree in modern European history from New York University. His wife, Rubo Fu, teaches Mandarin.

Bryan RosenbergBryan Rosenberg Assistant Head of Lower School Bryan began his career in education as a third grade teacher at the School at Columbia University. He then joined the founding faculty at Ross Global Academy (RGA) in New York City, where he was the lead middle school teacher and taught fifth through eighth grade cultural history and literacy.

Bryan earned his BA in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College and MA in Communication and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. He is currently a doctoral candidate in the sociology of education at Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University. His research focuses on the political economy of schools, the politicization of popular culture, and the political mobilization of youth.

MaxMax Krieger Wellness Teacher Max is entering his first year at Ross School after receiving his master's degree from Brockport College (2015) in education. Max attended Syracuse University (2010) for undergraduate studies and worked in Florida for several years as an Athletic Director and teacher.

His summers are spent as a senior staff member at Camp Seneca Lake, an overnight summer camp, in upstate New York. He brings extensive knowledge and experience in health, wellness, and coaching. He is originally from Rochester, New York, and is very excited to be joining the Ross School community.

 

Mandarin TeacherLorraine (Yao) Lin Mandarin Teacher Lorraine was born in Inner Mongolia and received K–12 schooling in Shanghai. She came to New York City two years ago to pursue multilingual multicultural studies at New York University. In graduate school, she worked extensively with students in public schools teaching English as a second language and Mandarin. As a passionate language educator, she is also dedicated to promoting cross-cultural communication and international exchange programs. This past summer, she worked with 25 African fellows under Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative. Her next travel destination is Africa, where she wants to volunteer in one fellow’s nongovernmental organization (NGO) advocating education for girls.

Joanna Manieri ESOL Teacher Joanna received her bachelor’s degree in communication/journalism, sociology, and classical studies from Loyola University Chicago in 2006. She then moved to Japan, where she taught English as a second language (ESL) for four years. After returning from Japan, she began teaching ESL to international students who were preparing for college careers in the United States at The Language Company at Widener University. At the same time, she studied for her master’s degree in secondary education—English and graduated in 2012. In 2013, she began teaching courses at Harcum College and Temple University. In the fall of 2014, she completed her student teaching experience at Abington Senior High School and earned her Pennsylvania Certification in English and Language Arts for Grades 7–12. She has also served as a mentor to master’s TESOL candidates at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education.

New teacherLydia Qiu Mandarin Teacher Lydia moved to America when she was 15. She went to high school and college in Columbus, Ohio. In 2015 she graduated magna cum laude from The Ohio State University, with a bachelor of science in foreign language education (Chinese). During her student teaching year, Lydia worked with an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) teacher to help students with limited English proficiency. In addition, she spent a year working with a Mandarin teacher in a high school setting in order to enhance her skills further. In the summer of 2015, Lydia became certified as a Mandarin medical interpreter. Soon after graduation, Lydia joined the Ross Mandarin team.

BSmithBonny Smith Dean of Students Bonny graduated with degrees in both psychology and education from Trent University and Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada. She then began her education career at the American School in El Salvador, followed by posts in Guatemala, Bangladesh, and Panama.

She came to the United States to work in both private and public schools in Arizona. She has worked as a teacher, Department of Corrections social worker, school counselor, curriculum coordinator, and administrator for over 26 years. She has a son and a daughter both attending Ross and is married to Donald Smith, Executive Director of Ross School. She looks forward to working and growing with the students, staff, and faculty at Ross School. She enjoys fixing things, playing the guitar, baking, practicing her Spanish, reading, soccer, and laughing with friends and family.

Teng Tu (photo unavailable at time of post) ESOL Teacher Teng graduated from University of Pennsylvania, majoring in TESOL. He was born and raised in Nanchang City, China. He went to Shanghai University of Finance and Economics to study business English. His favorite college experiences included being a debate coach, winning a college soccer championship with his friends, and volunteering at a bilingual orphanage summer camp. After graduation, Teng became a TOEFL and IELTS teacher before coming to the United States.

Newest Staff Members

AnjaAnja Abney Assistant Director of Admissions Anja came from Germany to the United States to attend college in Louisiana and received her BA in foreign languages. She then continued to finish her MBA in international business at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Anja worked in the business world for eight years before deciding to start a new career in international education. She became the international student advisor at Xavier University and assisted students with immigration concerns and cultural adjustment. Anja is fluent in German, French, Spanish, and English. She is also conversational in Arabic. She brings to Ross School a great understanding of what international students need to adjust to living in the United States.

Ellen CutroneEllen Cutrone Administrative Assistant, Admissions Ellen recently moved to Sag Harbor to join the Admissions team at Ross School. Previously, she was a Professor of International Relations at University of Alabama. Ellen earned a PhD and MA in international relations from Binghamton University and her BA in political science from West Chester University.

 

 

 

 

Logan-Gray-225x300Logan Gray Project Manager, Ross Institute Logan works with leadership on organizational projects in the areas of operations and business development. Prior to joining Ross, Logan was Assistant to the Executive Vice President for Research at Columbia University, where he managed special projects relating to university research initiatives in basic science and engineering and research compliance, safety, and administration. Logan held this position after having served as a Senior Aide to the Chief Scientific Officer of Chromocell Corporation, working in the areas of business development and process improvement across several exploratory research programs. Logan holds a bachelor’s degree in physics, with advanced coursework in economics, Spanish, and French from Rutgers University, and has completed graduate coursework in management at Columbia University. He is also an active consultant/volunteer for the Research Foundation to Cure AIDS, NYC Pride, and the New York Arts and Sciences Salon. His interests include real estate, science, and politics.

SashaSasha Skulsky Assistant Residential Life Director Sasha received her BA in psychology from Bard College. Originally from Nebraska, Sasha was a boarding school student for four years in upstate New York. She began her career in Admissions and then transitioned to being the Dean of Students and Dean of Residential Life. Sasha is heading into her eighth year of working in boarding schools.

 

 

 

JilingJiling Yang Assistant Director of Admissions Before coming to the United States, Jiling pursued her BA and MA in China. She completed her MA in women’s studies at Georgia State University, and then joined the PhD program in history at Case Western Reserve University.

With a deep faith in the concept that “the Earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens,” she joined Ross School in 2015. Jiling, who worked at the United Nations prior to arriving at Ross, has a great passion for “educating the whole child for the whole world.” She speaks fluent Chinese and English, and has also studied Russian, French, Japanese, and Esperanto.

Returning Faculty and Staff with New Responsibilities

DanDan Bruni Residential Life Coordinator In 2014, Dan Bruni journeyed from his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to join Ross as an Accounting and Residential Life Associate. A graduate of Waynesburg University, Dan studied accounting and was also a member of the wrestling team. He’s taken his lifetime passion for athletics and brought that enthusiasm to Ross as a coach of the cross country and track and field teams. Dan likes to spend much of his free time outside playing recreational games.

 

 

Nick McLeod Residential Life Coordinator Nick was born in Tucson, Arizona, but grew up in Wiscasset, Maine. He was passionate about math and science from an early age, and he earned a BS in mechanical engineering from Syracuse University, where he ran a volunteer program for SU engineering students to teach inner-city middle school students about engineering. This heavily influenced his decision to join the Ross School community as a House Parent and Administrative Associate after graduation in 2013. As an associate, Nick spent time working in the Innovation Lab @Ross, the Development Office, Athletics, Residential Life, and Community Programs. In July of 2015, Nick transitioned into his new position as Residential Life Program Coordinator, where he focuses on creating fun and exciting programs for students to participate in outside of the classroom.

Lauren MullaneyLauren Mullaney Lower School Teacher Lauren graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in 2012 with a bachelor of science in elementary education and a bachelor of arts in English. She is certified in Elementary Education, K–6. She joined Ross School in 2014 as a House Parent, Teaching Associate, and Assistant Coach for both JV girls basketball and track and field.

 

 

 

 

Christina Schlesinger (photo unavailable at time of post) Leave Replacement Cultural History Teacher Christina Schlesinger taught eighth grade cultural history in the early days of Ross School (1996), when there were only four grades and 48 students—all girls! She left in 2005 to spend time in New York City, continuing her teaching at York Prep and the Fieldston School; parenting her daughter, Chun; and pursuing her career as an artist. Chun is now safely off to her first year at Franklin and Marshall College, and Christina has returned as a leave replacement for Matt Aldredge, teaching grade 10 cultural history for the fall trimester.

House ParentBrianne Venturella Finance Business Analyst Brianne joined Ross School in August 2014 as an Associate in the Business Office as well as a House Parent. She was then promoted to Financial Business Analyst in June 2015 and continues to act as a boarding parent for the upcoming school year.

She was born and raised in Southampton, New York, a short distance from Ross School. Brianne completed her undergraduate degree at SUNY New Paltz, in upstate New York, with a major in finance and a minor in mathematics. During her time there, she also completed a study abroad program at Kingston University in London. She then went on to complete her graduate work at Boston University, receiving her master’s degree in actuarial science with a concentration in mathematical finance.
