Varsity Tennis Team Heading to Playoffs

Tennis1 The Boys Varsity Tennis team is down to the last few matches in the regular season and is currently in second place in League XII. Assistant Coach Kevin Snyder said he has seen huge improvements this year, and the players’ skill and passion for the sport is evident in their dominant performances on the court. Their win against Longwood on April 30 bumped their record up to 9–3, and Kevin is confident the team will head into the playoffs at the top of their game.

All players on the team are swinging with confidence. Coach Juan Diaz says senior Dan Okin is “on fire” and has played great in some very tough matches this season. He has been working hard to improve his game, and it’s paying off on the courts. Other standouts are juniors Jonas Linnman-Feuerring and Gonzalo Trapote, who have been rock-solid in the team’s number two and three singles spots; and senior Madison Hummel, who is first in doubles and fourth in singles. “He is playing great at the net and putting a lot of shots away,” Kevin said.

Overall, the team is advancing every part of their mental and physical game, and all have shown flashes of great tennis. The coaches have been stressing consistency with all players, which means something different for each of them, whether it’s getting more shots in the court, putting volleys away at the net, or making more first serves. “On an individual level, there has been a lot of growth in those areas,” Kevin said.

As far as big challenges ahead in the regular season, the team will wrap up with a match against East Hampton. The focus will then be on the playoffs, with the individual tournament on May 8 and 9, and the team playoffs the following week.

Good luck, Cosmos!
