Field Academy Sharing Night Scheduled for March 30

MTerm10 In recent weeks, students have traveled to the corners of the world and also engaged in wonderful learning experiences right here at home. They will discuss their adventures at Field Academy Sharing Night in the Court Theater in the Center for Well-Being at 6:30pm on March 30. The following sampling of activities near and far is but a taste of what students will present at that time.

MTerm4

On campus at Ross Upper School, four seventh graders started a literary magazine under the guidance of Dean Jack Hill, while another group of seventh and eighth graders visited local farms to get a firsthand look at the natural process of growing a variety of foods in the agricultural environments on Long Island’s North and South Forks. A third on-campus course for students in grades 7–12 studying the history and politics of sports included a trip to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center to watch the Brooklyn Nets take on the Charlotte Hornets, following discussion of the political aspects of building the arena.

MTerm9

Other on-campus courses for grades 9–12 featured studies in art, science and innovation, and performing arts.

MTerm6

This year’s Field Academy included multiple domestic and quasi-domestic travels. One group explores the natural environments of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands; one helped with the construction of homes in a town along the Mississippi River that was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina; one began in Alaska and made its way down to Mexico, chronicling the trip through photography; and one explored historic sites on the East Coast, including Washington, DC, and the 9/11 memorial in New York City.

MTerm2

Overseas courses covered the history and culture of an assortment of countries, including Japan, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Thailand, Turkey, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan. Finally, the Ross School Tennis Academy students traveled to Brazil to learn new techniques from tennis legends.
