Students looking to extend their time at Ross School beyond the academic year can sign up for Summer Term @Ross to take a course in Mathematics, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Mandarin, Design and Invention, Marine Science, College and Test Prep, or Tennis. Summer is an exciting time at Ross, and students can not only engage in intensive, personalized classes but also take advantage of many opportunities to enjoy the arts, beaches, music, and sports.
Summer Term balances rigorous academic courses with relaxation and time at the beach, cultural events, shopping, and day trips to New York City. In the mornings, after a delicious breakfast at the Ross Café, students focus on their chosen areas of study. After lunch and some free time, students are often working on projects or extensions of their classwork from the morning sessions. Afternoons offer Wellness classes and electives in science or art, followed by dinner and evening study hall or other activities.
During the two three-week sessions of Summer Term, students can choose to attend during the day or board in luxurious family-style homes supervised by faculty house parents. Weekend excursions for boarders allow teens to experience a variety of happenings on Long Island and in NYC.
In 2014, Summer Term hosted more than 85 students from the United States, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East as they studied mathematics, improved their English, developed university admissions test-taking skills, and explored under the guidance of mentors from Innovation Lab @Ross. They also enjoyed pool parties, barbeques, fireworks, soccer on the lawn, and lots of laughs with new friends. Many of these students returned to Ross in September and enrolled for the full academic year.
Attending Summer Term @Ross can give students a solid basis for continuing studies, and even a competitive edge, as well as a summer experience that brings fun, learning, and a chance to forge lifelong friendships.
