The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students began the second session with placement tests that showed advancement at all levels—beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Over the next three weeks, they will strengthen their pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary while learning about different aspects of American culture, including table manners and classroom customs. Some of the classes will continue to read works by William Shakespeare and Geoffrey Chaucer.

In Innovation Lab @Ross, students are improving skills with the 3D printer, creating robohands and fingers and board game pieces. A new student is sharing his experience with recycling lights back in his home country of Germany.

Summer Term students are also taking diverse elective courses, including a Culinary Arts class with teacher Wendy Wachtel, where they spent Tuesday afternoon hard at work perfecting a delicious baked apple pie.

In the Environmental Science elective, students are diving into their biodiversity studies in the classroom and in the field. In the first six weeks, they investigated the grounds of the Ross Upper School campus and nearby Sagg Main Beach and Two Holes of Water Park. The class collected samples of soil, sand, plants, and water. Back at the lab, they categorized and counted their finds and looked for microorganisms with the aid of a microscope.

Students continue to bond and enjoy boarding life, with many houses organizing board game evenings with friends, relaxing by the pool, or heading to the beach for soccer games during their downtime.
