On July 3, each of the 11 boarding homes hosted a “bonding night,” with fun activities such as board games and movies, to help the new housemates get to know one another. Next, on a rainy July 4, the students visited Roosevelt Field shopping mall in Garden City. They also participated in a scavenger hunt at Dave & Buster’s (a popular arcade, restaurant, and recreation center). Working in teams, the new friends hunted down obscure items and answers to questions like how many varieties of milkshakes the restaurant served.

With the sun once again shining on July 5, students gathered for a pool party at one of the boarding homes. In the evening, they were off to the annual North Sea Carnival to brave rides such as the “Gravitron,” take in the sites from atop the Ferris wheel, and try their hand at the many carnival games. After sunset, they watched a beautiful firework display in celebration of America’s Independence Day.

On Sunday, the students had a choice of three activities to wrap up their fun-filled weekend—sun and surf at Indian Wells Beach in nearby Amagansett, the new Transformers movie at the cinema in East Hampton, or a pool party with soccer and Frisbee. image copy

“It’s great how quickly the students have adapted and already look forward to sharing their days and adventures with their classmates, said D’Ashley Wilson, assistant to Jennifer Lloyd, the director of Summer Term and dean of World Languages and Literature at Ross. “It’s going to be another great summer at Ross!”
