Grades 3–8 Spring Concert

DSC_5853 On June 4, families, faculty, staff, and members of the community gathered in the Ross Upper School Court Theater for a delightful spring concert showcasing the many musical talents of grades 3–8.

The evening opened with the Grades 3–6 Chorus singing “Seasons of Love” from Rent, “Count on Me,” and “Happy.” Grade 3 Strings continued with “French Folk Song—Orchestra Style!” and “Fiddlin’ Fun,” which was composed by Ross strings teacher Robert Davies. A group from the same grades on recorders kept the beat moving with lively renditions of “Paw Paw Patch” and “I Got a Feelin’” by the Black Eyed Peas.

Next, the Grades 4–6 String Orchestra performed “Boogie Man Blues” and “A Beethoven Lullaby.” They were followed by the Grade 3 Concert Band’s version of “London Lamb,” and the Grades 4–6 Concert Band’s “Defender of Time” and the main theme from the movie Star Wars.

Grades 7–8 Chorus first sang “Inimici autem,” and then brought the audience back to Broadway with a powerful performance of “For Good,” from Wicked. Their classmates in the String Orchestra followed with “Kabuki Dance,” “Evening Prayer,” and “Slavonic Dance.”

A beautiful piano interlude by Tristan Griffin included Chopin’s “Etude” and “Apologize’ Variations,” originally by One Republic and arranged by Tristan and Kyle Landry.

The evening concluded with musicians from grades 7 and 8. The Concert Band performed “Ashton Overture”; Court Festival, II. Pavard and III. Galliard; and “Party Dance Mix,” arranged by Paul Murtha. The Stage Band closed with “Apologize” and Herbie Hancock’s “Chameleon,” arranged by Maureen Isbister.
