The Upper School Performing Arts program wrapped up the school year with its final Spring Concert for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders in the Court Theater on June 4. The String Orchestra, Chorus, Concert Band, and Stage Band played an array of music ranging from Bach and Beethoven to Duke Ellington and pop singer Taylor Swift.
Everyone gave stellar performances, with a few notable standouts. Arranged by freshman faculty member Rob Davies, the String Orchestra performed "7 Nation Army" by The White Stripes. This was followed by seventh grader Tristan Griffin’s solo performance of Piano Sonata No. 14 C# minor on piano. Seasonal Impressions, performed by the Chorus, was created through a collaborative process that invited all students in Mixed Chorus to contribute ideas to its text, structure, and melodic shape. Meanwhile, "Joy" was one of the selections performed at the 2013 SCMEA Festival by the All-County Concert Band. Finally, the performance of “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)” was the result of a collaboration between the Stage Band and Tap Dance electives.
